Healthcare Town Hall Meetings

On Wednesday, September 2, 2009, Congressman McCarthy will hold a Health Care Town Hall Meeting to listen to local residents concerns and answer questions regarding the current health care debate in Congress. Congressman McCarthy issued the following statement:

“As Congress deliberates the future of America’s health care, I want to listen to our local residents concerns and answer their questions.  I am fighting to keep families in control of decisions, not bureaucrats. That is why I support fiscally responsible health care solutions that focus on increasing affordability, accessibility, and jobs, and also protecting individuals, small businesses, and families.”—Congressman Kevin McCarthy

The health care town hall meeting is this Wednesday, September 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Commercial Building C at the Paso Robles Event Center, located at 2198 Riverside Avenue in Paso Robles.

Interested individuals may RSVP for the event (but are not required to) by visiting: www.kevinmccarthy.house.gov/events/, calling Congressman McCarthy’s district office at (661) 327-3611, or emailing RSVP.McCarthy@mail.house.gov.

Also, Central Coast Congresswoman Lois Capps has announced that she will hold three community information sessions on health care reform this week.

Capps will discuss the comprehensive health insurance reform legislation being considered by Congress, the America's Affordable Health Choices Act, and answer audience questions about the legislation.

All events are free and open to the public; however, seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please note that audience members will not be allowed to bring signs or other distinguishing materials into the sessions.

Capps will hold the San Luis Obispo County session on Thursday, September 3 in San Luis Obispo. It will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church, located at 1515 Fredericks Street.

San Luis Obispo County
2009 “Faces of Freedom” Memorial
Veterans Day Ceremony

Wednesday, November 11, 11:00 am

The tragic events at Fort Hood Texas reminds all of us as Americans to take pause to morn and to remember, that every day our military men and women put their lives on the line for us.

Coming this Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th at 11:00 am, you can show your appreciation of our Nation’s Heroes. The public is invited to join the Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation and the Atascadero VFW Post 2814 in a ceremony to honor our active duty military and all our veterans selfless service and sacrifice to this nation.

The ceremony will be held at the new “Faces of Freedom” Veterans Memorial in Atascadero, located at the intersection of Hwy 41 (Morro Rd) and Portola Rd., just 2 miles west of Hwy 101 on Hwy 41.

It is of special note that we will also be celebrating the 1st Anniversary of the “Faces of Freedom” Veterans Memorial, built to honor all our nation’s Veterans with particular emphasis on the Veterans of SLO County. Everyone is invited to attend. The Foundation is anticipating a good turnout as many schools are closed that day.

Of special note: this year the Ceremony’s location will change for the 1st time in 40 years from the Atascadero Cemetery to the new “Faces of Freedom” Veterans Memorial. The one hour ceremony begins at 11:00 am and will be followed by a Community BBQ at the VFW Post next door.

The event will include inspirational speakers and we are honored to present of our First Annual Distinguished Veterans Award which will be presented to a special SLO County WWII Veteran, Ernie Porter. The Atascadero Community Band will play patriotic music and the Estrella Warbirds will be executing a flyover. We look forward to a large attendance as it will be a memorable event.

Toys for the Troops’ Kids Drive

The California Republican Party’s Veterans Network and the CRVA is teaming up with Toys for the Troops’ Kids in order to recognize and thank the unsung heroes of our security forces: the children of our military personnel who courageously share with us their parents.

This holiday season, please help the CRP with its collaboration with Toys for the Troops’ Kids to raise gifts for the children of California’s military personnel who are currently deployed or who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.

We owe these unsung heroes our appreciation and support, and there is no better way to say “thank-you” than with a gift on the holidays.

Help us bring the gift of joy with a donation of a gift ($10 minimum)
for children, ages 0-18.

Donations can be dropped off at your local county Republican office at 531 Marsh Street, Suite B in downtown San Luis Obispo or at our Farmers Market booth in front of Crazy Jay’s clothing store on Higuera Street, Thursday nights from 6-9pm. Call us at 541-4010 for more details.
